Warner Baxter

Columbus, OH born actor who found stardom in silent films and continued on to a successful career in talking pictures. Baxter won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as The Cisco Kid in the early talkie In Old Arizona (1928). His most popular role came as the lead in Warner Bros. musical 42nd Street (1933), in which he played the director Julian Marsh ("... you're going out a youngster but you've got to come back a star!"), and he was very popular later in his career starring as Dr. Robert Ordway in ten "Crime Doctor" releases for Columbia, beginning with Crime Doctor (1943). Other popular classic films starring or featuring Warner Baxter include West of Zanzibar (1928), Penthouse (1933), Broadway Bill (1934), The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), and Adam Had Four Sons (1941), among many others.
