Shirley Temple

The greatest child star of them all, this Santa Monica, CA born screen legend ruled the box office throughout the mid- and late-1930s. Started out in short films in 1932, and quickly began appearing in bit roles in features for the major studios, before bursting to stardom in 1934. Temple caught everybody's attention throughout 1934 in Stand Up and Cheer!, Little Miss Marker, Baby Take a Bow, and Now and Forever, before catapulting to fame just before the new year in Bright Eyes (1934). The titles that followed throughout that decade cemented Temple's fame, among them The Little Colonel (1935), Curly Top (1935), The Littlest Rebel (1935), Captain January (1936), Poor Little Rich Girl (1936), Stowaway (1936), Wee Willie Winkie (1937), Heidi (1937), Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), and The Little Princess (1939). An older Shirley appeared in Since You Went Away (1944), and she was all grown up by the time of The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer (1947), That Hagen Girl (1947), and Fort Apache (1948). She received a special "Juvenile Award" at the 1935 Academy Awards.
