Born in China to a British father and Austrian mother, Maritza appeared in a handful of European films before coming to America as the latest answer to the Hollywood successes of Garbo and Dietrich. She appeared in films such as Evenings for Sale (1932), The Right to Romance (1933), and, most notably, among the all-star cast of International House (1933) before marrying and retiring from film in 1934.
