British born leading man of important classic films including the Dumas adaptation The Count of Monte Cristo (1934), Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Steps (1935), King Vidor's The Citadel (1938), and MGM classic Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939) among many others. Played lead support role of Thomas Culpepper in Alexander Korda's The Private Life of Henry VIII, and later starred in one of my own favorites, The Magic Box (1951), as film pioneer William Friese-Greene.
