Joseph Schildkraut appeared in European film since the mid-1910s, and made his American debut in D.W. Griffith's Orphans of the Storm (1921). He'd act up until the time of his death, and win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Life of Emile Zola (1937). Other memorable classic films featuring Schildkraut include Cleopatra (1934), The Shop Around the Corner (1940), and The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), among many others.
