Shop by the Stars aisle featuring Glenn Ford (1916-2006) vintage movie cards, still photos, ephemera, and other collectibles. Born in Quebec, Canada, Ford's family later relocated to Santa Monica, CA, where he began acting at his high school. He acted on West Coast stages before signing with Columbia in 1939. Ford was a rising young star who appeared in over a dozen films before volunteering for the Marine reserves, but it wasn't until after he had received a medical discharge and the War had ended that he leapt to major prominence with his starring role opposite Rita Hayworth in Gilda (1946). Never nominated for an Academy Award, Ford nevertheless enjoyed a long career and starred in several major classics including The Big Heat (1953), Blackboard Jungle (1955), the original versions of Ransom! (1956) and 3:10 to Yuma (1957), the remake of Cimarron (1960), another remake in Pocketful of Miracles (1961), and Experiment in Terror (1962). Later in his career he played Pa Kent in Superman (1978). MGM star Eleanor Powell was the first of Ford's four wives.
