Born Debralee Griffin in Denver, CO, but soon relocated to Los Angeles because her mother saw potential for her children in Hollywood. Boy, was she ever right: While Debra Paget is the best-known of the Griffin siblings, two sisters had Hollywood careers under the names Teala Loring/Judith Gibson and Lisa Gaye, and brother Frank Griffin/Ruell Shayne was a movie actor before becoming a makeup artist. Debra enrolled and later graduated the Hollywood Professional School, and had her stage debut in the late 1940s in a production of Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor. Debra Paget was just fifteen when she debuted in Cry of the City (1948) for Twentieth Century-Fox, who were impressed enough to sign her to long-term deal. She had her breakthrough as Sonseeahray, Jimmy Stewart's much younger Apache love interest in Broken Arrow (1950). Paget offered strong support in a diverse trio of films in 1952 beginning with Cheaper by the Dozen sequel Belles on Their Toes, as Cosette in Les Miserables, and then in the John Philip Sousa biopic Stars and Stripes Forever (all 1952). She gained attention for her sultry dance in Princess of the Nile (1954), something she'd do again with her even more famous "snake dance" in The Indian Tomb (1959), the second of two for Fritz Lang after The Tiger of Eschnapur (1959), both filmed in India and Germany. Other memorable titles include Fourteen Hours (1951), Prince Valiant (1954), Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954) and The Last Hunt (1956). In all, Debra Paget appeared in thirty-two films, her last two coming for Roger Corman at AIP, Tales of Terror (1962) and The Haunted Palace (1963).
